Midland Mayor Patrick Payton is considering opening up pools and splash pads in Midland for the summer.

According to NewsWest 9, Mayor Payton says he will go off the advice of health officials and the governor before he will open up pools for the summer.

"If we can put enough chlorine in the pool to go along with the UV rays, it could be a great thing for all of us." said Mayor Payton.

The CDC says there is no evidence that the COVID-19 virus can spread through swimming pools since chlorine and other disinfectants used to clean pools would kill the virus.

Pools across the state remain closed and the City of Odessa has already made the decision to keep all pools closed for this summer.

We will see how all of this pans out as we go forward.
