In comparison to last year, Midland International Airport is seeing much less traffic going through the airport.

According to NewsWest 9, officials with the airport say this year compared to last year has passengers down 89 percent.

That figure was comparing April 2019 to April 2020, things have gotten better since April but passengers for September were still down 50% from September 2019.

With oil company cutbacks and COVID-19, that means travelers for business are down and leisure travel has seen a hit especially because people do not want to get stuck somewhere and not be able to get back home.

Midland International Airport is hopeful that once oil picks back up then the airport will pick back up too.
