Midland County Sheriff Gary Painter Passes Away

Memorial Day in Midland County took on a added meaning with the sudden passing of long time Sheriff Gary Painter.

According to NewsWest 9, Painter was found unresponsive just after midnight Sunday morning and an ambulance was called in but they were unsuccessful in their efforts to revive Painter.

A public memorial has been set up in the parking spot of Sheriff Painter at the Midland County Sheriff's Office at 400 S. Main St.

Viewing for Sheriff Painter will be 4-6pm Wednesday May 29, 2019 at Nalley-Pickle Welch Funeral Home and the service will be held Thursday at 2pm at the Horseshoe Arena in Midland.

Sheriff Gary Painter had been the sheriff of Midland County since being elected in 1984 his inauguration was in January of 1985.
