Midland Memorial Hospital has already designated its 9th floor as a COVID floor and now Medical Center Hospital in Odessa is following suit.

According to NewsWest 9, the 9th floor of MCH is being cleared out to become a COVID-19 overflow floor.

It all comes after the state of Texas has reached over 1 million cases, and with local cases continuing to increase and overwhelm area hospitals.

"We're getting ramped up for the flu season, we have to think about that on top of COVID, our census is about average for where we've been the past couple of years and then you add COVID in there and our numbers are up," said Amanda Everette, Emergency Management Coordinator at Medical Center Hospital.

The new floor will make an additional 28 beds available.
