The most recent church shooting in Texas happened at the West Freeway Church of Christ in White Settlement, Texas on December 29, 2019, and the man responsible for killing the shooter was presented with the Medal of Courage.

According to NewsWest 9, Jack Wilson received the honor from Governor Greg Abbott on Monday morning (January 13, 2020) for being one of the church congregants that shot and killed Keith Thomas Kinnunen after he opened fire on the church.

“Only God knows who is alive today because of Jack Wilson," said Abbott before awarding the medal to Wilson. "What we do know is that so many lives were saved because of Jack Wilson’s quick action, his calmness under pressure and above all else, his courage and his willingness to risk his own life to save the lives of others.”

The Medal of Honor is the highest award given to civilians by the governor's office.
