Lorde Confirms She’s Been Secretly Dragging The World’s Onion Rings on Instagram
Melodrama is being outed as the fried food world's most underhanded enemy.
Earlier this week, New Zealand's Newshub reported they had reason to believe Lorde was behind an Instagram account called @onionringsworldwide, which only had a few dozen followers and routinely ranked O-rings served anywhere from Tennessee to New York. And on last night's The Tonight Show, Lorde finally came clean, and admitted she was, indeed, responsible for the sometimes scathing reviews ("They are not good,” one review starkly reads).
"I have to explain for a second. Here’s the thing: I sort of naively didn’t realize it would be ‘a thing’ that I was going to different places and trying the onion rings at each of those places,” she said. “[But] It’s me. It’s me.”
"I feel like it reads like the kind of thing a pop star would do to look relatable," she added. "Which I wasn’t doing. It was a funny thing with my friends on the tour. I was like, ‘This is a good past time.'”
And though Lorde ultimately deleted the account once early reports started circulating, she said she's no less inclined to do the necessary legwork.
“I’m still going to keep eating onion rings because they’re my favorite,” she said, and even offered some advice to those aiming to achieve the perfect onion ring. “A batter works better than a crumb. It’s a bit lighter. The other thing you can do to make an onion ring magical is lightly pickle the onion before you batter it up.”
