Lin-Manuel Miranda Says Rapper Immortal Technique ‘Terrorized’ Him In High School

Bonafide theater nerd Lin-Manuel Miranda recently admitted he was bullied in high school, which is unsurprising when you consider the cruel nature of teens and their strange desire to stifle excessive earnestness. But Miranda wasn't just taunted by some nobody 16-year-old who would peak early in life -- his tormentor went on to carve out a successful music career as political rapper Immortal Technique.

The Hamilton creator made the revelation during an appearance on yesterday's (November 14) WTF podcast, while (oddly enough) speaking to the unifying nature of theater.

"There’s a famous alum of my high school named, well, his rapper name is Immortal Technique. He’s one of the most political, ideological — he really made an incredible life for himself as a rapper," Miranda said. "He was our school bully and he terrorized kids, he’d throw them in the garbage. I got thrown in the garbage by him!"

Miranda continued, saying Immortal Technique -- born Felipe Andres Coronel -- landed a part in the school play, which forced the two to work together despite their differences.

"He was a really angry kid and it’s been wonderful to watch him grow up and find a political outlet for that anger," Miranda said, "but he scared the sh---t out of us and he was in the school play — he got a part senior year -- and I was like, 'Oh my god, I’m in a f---king play with the dude who scares the sh---t out of all our friends.'"
