Kim Kardashian ‘Wasn’t so Calm’ After Kanye’s Controversial Slavery Comments
On Monday evening (June 4), Extra caught up with Kim Kardashian at the 2018 CFDA Fashion Awards, where she was honored with the inaugural Influencer Award.
While chatting, Kardashian opened up about how she really felt after husband Kanye West's controversial slavery comments, admitting she reacted "with screams" and "wasn't so calm" after initially hearing about what West said during his much talked-about TMZ interview.
"This time I wasn’t so calm... I know what he meant so ultimately, after a week, I was calm... I think he explained it well in the song," she shared, referring to the rapper's Ye track "Wouldn't Leave," which addresses his ill-received statements.
"I know his heart, so I know he’ll always have that chance to explain himself when the time is right," she continued, adding that when she heard the song she "cried because it is a lot of what we went through... I know my husband has the best intentions. He has the biggest heart."
Ironically enough, West's controversy came up during the CFDAs when actress, writer and producer Issa Rae, who hosted the event, slammed the rapper in her monologue... all while Kardashian sat in the audience.
"I'm about as fashionable as Kanye is black — only when it's convenient," she said, adding, "That joke was my choice, just like slavery."
