Janelle Monae served as the musical guest on 'Saturday Night Live' last night (Oct. 26), bringing her black and white aesthetic to the show's stage for the first time in her career. The CoverGirl rep made it a memorable, two-song stint.

Dressed in all white with black accessories (suspenders, boots, belt and gloves), the pint-sized, pompadoured powerhouse was a ball of energy during her appearance of her first song. For her debut, Monae performed 'Dance Apocalyptic' and it felt like we were in a roarin' jazz club in another era, thanks to Monae's combustible energy. We also felt like we were shopping at Foot Locker, since her backup singers wore referee stripes.

For her reprise, Monae took the stage and performed 'Electric Lady' -- in a varsity-type jacket. it was quite a charged performance and we loved seeing her footwork. She wasn't as manic as she was for her previous song, and the track didn't call for it. But it was equally as entertaining.

Let's hope the singer's 'SNL' appearance boosts interest in her new album 'The Electric Lady,' since it's so good!
