When It Comes To Imports, Texas Goes Way Big
POTUS Donald Trump recently exacted a bunch of tariffs on imported goods which has everyone worried about rising prices. Especially in Texas where we import a lot of stuff.
Of all the 50 states, Texas ranks number 3 in terms of the amount of imports it brings in. Those things, of course, may be about to get really expensive thanks to the new tariffs.
Some tariffs will be as high as 25%.
From the beer we drink, well, the cans it comes in anyway, to new cars and electronics, prices are going up as most manufacturers are passing the cost of those tariffs on to consumers.
Texas is, typically, pretty solid when it comes to producing what we need ourselves and/or "importing" stuff domestically. We do bring in a ton of goods from outside the United States of America though, so much that we are #3 in the nation for imports.
For Texas, it's mostly computers and electronics that we import, to the tune of $96.5 billion ... with a "B" ... annually. Computers, along with cars and cell phones, are taking big hits under these tariffs.
Top 5 Import States By Items And Dollar Amount
- California, Computers & Electronics - $152.6 Billion
- Michigan, Cars and Auto Parts - $107.8 Billion
- Texas, Computers & Electronics - $96.5 Billion
- Illinois, Computers & Electronics - $52.8 Billion
- Pennsylvania, Chemicals & Medicines - $40.9 Billion
