Southwest Airlines Ends “Bags Fly Free” Policy
Midland, Texas-- Flying commercially in 2025 is an experience. You have the pick-of-the-litter on which airline will get you to your destination at a cost-efficient and timely manner. Usually, logistics such as bag fees or wait times don't cross the mind of the occasional traveler for the most part.

Recently, Southwest Airlines has faced what other airlines are experiencing in 2025- a financial crisis! Southwest has been forced to cut corners by ending open-ended seating and conducting mass layoffs, something the company has never experienced in its entire history. In their most recent attempt to regain a financial footing, Southwest has decided to put an end to their "bags fly free" policy after a staggering 54 years of operating without charging additional fees for suitcases or carry-on luggage.
This decision may recoup some of the losses Southwest Airlines has experienced in recent months. However, they may fail to see the big picture that they are upsetting customers by eliminating a major element and reason as to why many people choose Southwest Airlines in the first place.
The airline did mention that A-List Loyalty members will still get 2 free checked bags and people with a Southwest Airlines credit card will get one free bag.
The change is due to take effect starting May 28, 2005. Will this alter your decision to fly Southwest in the future?
