Seven Planets Align

Star watchers will have quite a sight to see this week! A few planets visible in the night sky isn't rare but having seven at once is truly a special occasion.

Seven planets will be visible in the night sky - Mars, Jupiter, Uranus, Venus, Neptune, Mercury, and Saturn. This is known as a 'planetary parade and is very rare. The next time skywatchers can see these specific planets together is in 2040.

Mercury, Venus, Jupiter, and Mars are visible to the naked eye. Saturn is also visible but will be harder to see since it is low on the horizon. You will need a telescope to catch Uranus and Neptune.

Best Time To See All Seven Planets

The best chance to see this rare site is a good view of the horizon and clear skies on Friday, February 28th. Seeing the seven planets will pass quickly so make sure to pick your spot beforehand.

Try to find a location far from city lights and without anything blocking your view of the horizon.

Saturn, Neptune, and Mercury will be visible right after sunset towards the western part of the sky. You will only have a few minutes to catch them before they drop below the horizon but you will still be able to see Venus, Jupiter, and Mars.

It's understandable if you can't travel to the country to see this event. If you step outside your house, be sure to give your eyes some time to adjust to the light levels. It's suggested that your eyes need about half an hour to a full hour to fully adjust.
