The more I drive in Midland, the more I realize how unsafe the drivers are in this city. No place is safe, not even the parking lots. They are probably more dangerous than the streets!

How many times have you been driving in a parking lot, and people just walked in front of your car without looking up from their phones? There have been countless times when I was backing out of a parking spot to stomp on the brakes because either a car or a person popped out of nowhere. Very early on I learned to park in reverse here in West Texas, it is so much safer.

I know you are probably judging me. I used to judge all the people who parked in reverse too but I discovered parking in reverse has so many benefits for you and oncoming traffic.

IT'S SO MUCH SAFER

According to Auto Trader, AAA even recommends backing into parking spots because it is safer. When you park in reverse, you have much better visibility while pulling out. You can't stop people from zooming through parking lots or pedestrians not paying attention because they are looking at their phones. Parking in reverse will come in handy by giving you better visibility while pulling out.

BUT IT'S HARD TO PARK IN REVERSE!

I used to be the worst at driving in reverse, especially parking. Technology has made it so much easier nowadays. Most cars are equipped with a rear camera and sensors to help. Since 2018, federal law mandates that new vehicles have backup cameras as standard equipment.

Most think people only back into parking spots because of a big ego and that may hold a lot of truth, but it will make your life so much easier.
