150 Denny’s Locations Closing! Will Midland/Odessa be affected?
Denny's has always been a staple in my life. My mom used to take us to Denny's on 42nd Street in Odessa to celebrate good grades or just for a fun place to eat. As I got older, Denny's visits became later and later, and soon, they were the spot we would go for pancakes after a late study night in college. I have not visited the restaurant in years, but I hold the memories close. When I saw that Denny's was closing 150 locations across the US, it pulled at my heartstrings.

WHY SO MANY CLOSURES?
According to the Associated Press, Denny's announced it's closing its lowest-performing restaurants to help with its drop in sales. They will close half of the 150 locations this year and the rest in 2025. The locations being closed represent around 10% of Denny's locations.
Inflation is hurting businesses this year and Denny's is not immune. Families are choosing to eat at home since it is cheaper and if they do go out to eat they are choosing fast-casual brands or fast food chains. Family dining has lost the most customer traffic since the pandemic in 2020 and has had the hardest time recovering.
WILL MIDLAND/ODESSA BE AFFECTED
Unfortunately, Denny's has not released the list of locations closing but they did mention the sites closing are older buildings. So far the Permian has lucked out of losing a bunch of major chains set to close locations. Hopefully, Denny's won't be the first!
Denny's announcing closures only reminds me of all the other store shutdowns in 2024. Here is a list of the stores that have closed so far this year.
