7 Myths About Texas Other States Believe
Texas is probably one of the most well-known states. Movies have done a number on how people see Texans. When you ask someone not from Texas what they think Texas is like, they usually mention a cowboy. I'm here to bust some of the myths about Texas and its people.
1. WE ARE ALL COWBOYS
Don't get me wrong, there are a lot of cowboys in the Lonestar State but to think we all are is a stretch. Every Texan knows just because you see people wearing a cowboy hat and boots, doesn't mean they are a cowboy.
2. IT'S ALL DESERT
People assume that Texas is all dirt and tumbleweeds. To be fair most movies portray Texas in this light, I guess they have never visited East Texas.
3. LIVE ON A FARM
There may be plenty of farms in Texas but most of us have never even stepped foot on a farm, let alone own one.
4. ALL KNOW HOW TO HUNT
Yes, Texas does have a lot of hunters. I hate to break it to you, but most of us just want to buy our meat from the store like everyone else. If they visited a H-E-B they would understand.
5. WE ALL SOUND LIKE MATHEW MCCONAUGHEY
When I travel outside of Texas, I always get asked where my accent is from. Most people are surprised when I say I'm from Texas, I guess my twang isn't twanging enough.
6. WE RIDE ON HORSEBACK EVERYWHERE
I went to Greece a few years back. Believe it or not, I got asked if everyone rode horses everywhere here. I was as shocked with the question as they were with the answer.
7. EVERYBODY LISTENS TO COUNTRY MUSIC
We may not all listen to country music but that doesn't mean we don't know how to 2-step. I can bootscoot and boogie with the best of them!
