Gov. Abbott Says Preventing Terrorism is Texas’ Main Goal for 2026
Texas Governor Greg Abbott released his list of priorities when it comes to the state's homeland security, and preventing terroristic threats and natural disasters are at the top.
Texas Homeland Security Goals for 2026-2030
This new strategy is meant to keep all Texans safe from foreign invasions, criminal organizations, and natural disaster events. Take a look at what was especially highlighted:
- Goal 1 - Prevent hostile foreign nation attacks and other criminal activity from building in Texas
- Goal 2 - Reduce the vulnerability to terrorist and criminal attacks and natural/technological disasters
- Goal 3 - If such incidents occur, minimize the impact they have on the state and its citizens
- Goal 4 - Improve the capability of the state's response system to assess damages and loss of life
- Goal 5 - Ensure recovery from such events is as streamlined and effective as possible as communities heal
- Goal 6 - Assist with the enhancements to statewide support efforts requiring homeland security missions
These goals are just a part of the overall strategy. In fact, there are a total of 31 objectives and 158 priorities in addition to these six goals. You can read the entire strategy from the State of Texas website right here.
Gov. Abbott said that efforts in protecting Texas from threats and vulnerabilities are always evolving, so staying on top of the issues with a strong strategy outlined for the next couple of years is crucial:
Through strong coordination and shared responsibility, we will continue to keep Texas the best state to raise a family, start a business and live a safe and prosperous life.
As with all good things, nothing lasts forever, which is why protecting our great state from threats that wish to tear it down is always a necessity. With this strategy set it place, our odds of preventing, responding to, and recovering from foreign threats will be as strong as ever for years to come.
