Visiting the South Plains Fair? Here’s What I Learned Isn’t Allowed

I plan on visiting the South Plains Fair this year, so I made sure to do some digging into what is and isn't allowed. Some rules are meant for my own safety while others are just policy that all visitors must adhere to.

So, let's go over some rules, guidelines, and expectations we need to know before attending the South Plains Fair anywhere between September 25 through October 3.

How Will I Get Kicked Out of the Fair?

Everybody at the South Plains Fair is just there to have a good time, so there are some rules set in place that we all need to follow to keep the good times flowing. For instance, your pets are not allowed to accompany you onto the fairgrounds unless it's a service animal.

Also, you will be sent home if you try to enter the fair with any bags that are not clear or are larger than 12" x 6" x 12". Basically, anything larger than a small clutch bag like backpacks, fanny packs, luggage, or briefcases are no-gos when trying to enter.

Moving on to that delicious fair food we've all heard so much about. Admission for lunch is free each weekday until 1 p.m. That's when they start charging for non-refundable tickets.

Finally, perhaps the most contested rule at the South Plains Fair: No firearms are allowed past the gates. This still applies even if you have a license to carry.

The fairgrounds happen to be private property rather than county-owned, meaning they have full freedom to declare what is and isn't allowed. Don't worry though, there will still be many police officers patrolling the fair for all of our protection.

Unattended Children = Big Problem

One last note about the South Plains Fair. The Lubbock Police Department implores all parents to never let their children out of their sight. If you or someone you know loses their child at the fair, immediately find security and they will help you locate them.

You can even go so far as to keep a picture of your child handy in the unlikely case that you need to show security what they look like. Establishing a meetup area with your family if you get split up is also a great idea. Oh, and please make sure everyone old enough has each other's phone numbers.

So, hopefully these things that I've learned about the South Plains Fair will come in handy for you. Nobody wants to stress about breaking rules or not staying safe, we all just want to have fun eating heavy foods and getting on spinning rides!
