Texas is getting a lot of attention with the Total Solar Eclipse coming because it will be one of the best spots to see it.

During a total solar eclipse, the Moon moves between the Earth and Sun completely obscuring the Sun. All of the United States will experience a partial solar eclipse. An eclipse path sweeps across central Mexico, parts of Texas, Oklahoma, Arkansas, Missouri, Kentucky, Illinois, Indiana, Ohio, Pennsylvania, New York, Vermont, New Hampshire, Maine and southern Canada. During totality, you may view the Sun without proper eye protection, such as solar glasses. But during all other phases of the eclipse, you should only look at the Sun when your eyes are protected.

But what cities and areas will be the best to see the total solar eclipse in Texas? Let's take a look.

The event is happening on Monday, April 8th, 2024. The eclipse will travel 480 miles through Texas in about 25 minutes, entering at 1:27 p.m. and leaving the state at 1:52 p.m. CT.

The path of totality in this country begins near Del Rio and crosses several small towns and large cities in the Lone Star State, including San Antonio, Austin, Waco and Dallas.

A prime location and one of the first cities in the US to experience totality is Kerrville. Its prolonged totality of 4 minutes and 25 seconds will draw thousands to the heart of the Hill Country.

Houston won't see a total eclipse but around 94% of the sun will be covered at 1:40 p.m., according to NASA.

Dallas will have a 100% path of totality starting at 12:23 p.m. and ending at 3:02 pm.

San Antonio will be a partial solar eclipse at about 99.6% but if you drive up to Fredricksburg you get a 100% total solar eclipse.

Austin will also be a path of totality at 100%

When will the next solar eclipse happen?

There will be another eclipse on August 12th, 2026. This one won't go through North America. It will go through Greenland, Iceland, and Spain.

North America won't experience totality again until 2033, with only Alaska getting the view. Then, in 2044, the totality will be confined to Western Canada, Montana, and North Dakota.

There won't be another U.S. eclipse spanning coast to coast until 2045.
