This is Why We Can't Have Nice Things

I grew up in Waco, Texas.  It used to be a quiet little city situated on the I-35 corridor between Austin and Dallas. Nobody cared about the city, most didn't even stop when driving through partially out of fear of running into Branch Davidians.

New businesses rarely opened, and the city didn't seem to change or grow for my entire upbringing from the 1970s through the 90s.

Fixer Upper Mania

But then the TV show Fixer Upper came to town, hosted by the ever-likable Gaines'. If you don't know, Fixer Upper is a show where they buy the worst house in a Waco, TX neighborhood and fix it up all new-like.  The show was an instant hit, and people soon came flocking to Waco to see all the fixed-up houses plus the restaurants and retail spaces the Gaines eventually built.

You've Changed

Waco has now grown exponentially, which, when you add hundreds of thousands of people to the mix, now you get rascals showing up to grocery shop in pajamas. I never trust people who shop in pajamas, because they obviously do not care about societal standards, so why not throw down in the middle of a packed store, what do they have to lose?
