West Texas Loses A Motorsports Destination For The 2024 Season

My first exposure to any type of sports was motorsports and they will always be close to my heart.

Motorsports, Except...

Again, I'm a motorsports fan, but more of a street-level guy. I don't care about NASCAR or Formula One type events on smooth tracks on a sunny day. For me it's always been about being up close and personal under the lights at dirt tracks and drag strips. For me, those events, which often tend to have weekend warrior types behind the wheel, really bring out the adrenaline.

We've Lost One For Now

In case you missed the announcement, West Texas Raceway has announced that they will not be open for this season. This is a tremendous lose for a lot of people who put their heart and soul into thier cars, and of course, the fans who love them. Here's the official announcement:

Due to unforseen circumstances and issues entirely beyond our control, we regret to inform all of our amazing fans, sponsors and drivers that we will not be able to open the gates of WTR for the 2024 race season.

We know you all will understand and we are truly grateful to be blessed with the most amazing fans, drivers and sponsors around, we look forward to turning the lights back on, bigger and better in 2025.

We urge all our fans, and drivers to support the surrounding dirt tracks this upcoming season and we hope to see you all again in 2025.

Keep The Faith

The worst thing with this type of closure is that it can take away some momentum. You should also (seriously) check in with your favorite drivers. There is a slight upside in that it will allow these drivers to catch up on their bills, repairs/modifications, and get their cars humming for the '25 season. Here's hoping the Mathews Family can bounce back stronger and give fans a chance to get back to the track.
