Texans Share Their Favorite Cool Treats to Beat the West Texas Heat
As summer roars into West Texas like a blowtorch, I asked listeners a simple yet, I think, an important question of the season to try and stay cool: "What’s your go-to snack when it feels like the sun has moved into your backyard?"

West Texas Summers Are No Joke
With little to no rain in the forecast and temperatures steadily creeping into triple digits, surviving the heat isn’t just a matter of hydration; it’s about treating yourself. I took to Facebook this week and asked:
"West Texas is heating up, and I need your help. What is the BEST snack for a hot summer day? Drop your go-to treat comments below, I give bonus points if it’s frozen or spicy."
Boy, did y’all deliver!
Snow Cones, Ice Cream, and West Texas Favorites
For me, it’s all about Blue Bell Ice Cream (shout-out for the new Banana Fudge). But when I hit the local snow cone stand, you better believe I’m ordering the blue one, yes, the coconut, and always ask for extra blue. It’s a summertime tradition.
Our listeners, however, opened my eyes (and taste buds) to a whole new world of cool. One listener called in and said she loves a spicy watermelon salad with Tajín and lime (while I've never heard of this before, check out the video below). Another was? Frozen grapes rolled in Jell-O powder (do WHAT?). And someone mentioned homemade peach ice cream that reminded me of my wife's grandma Allison, who always had her ice-cream freezer going (yum-yum).

Frozen Bananas in Chocolate? Yes, Please!
One treat I’ve never tried but absolutely will this weekend: frozen bananas drizzled with chocolate syrup. I plan to sit in the hottest spot in my yard and eat one like an Olympic champion. You’ve inspired me, West Texas, and I love you.
