Join me and the entire Townsquare Media Team as we join the fun at the last three weekends in October 2024. Boo at the Zoo for 2022. Families from around West Texas are encouraged to dress up in their favorite Halloween costumes for fun with the animals at the zoo.

The best part of Boo at the Zoo this year is that it's extended through the end of October ensuring that you won't miss out on any of the spooky, scary fun. So get dressed and ready to be scared or scare someone else. This year there are a lot of different events for everyone in the family young and old alike.

Granted Boo at the Zoo has gotten bigger and includes more interaction with many of the zoo residents. Your little ghosts and goblins will be able to sink their fangs into goodies from the community-based Trick-or-Treat stations spread throughout the Zoo while also enjoying live entertainment, real animal encounters, costume dance parties, and so much more as you'll see in the video below.

Every Year Abilene's Boo at the Zoo offers a ton of fun activities from the always exciting Pumpkin Chunkin', pumpkin decorating events, wild animal experiences, and the Boo at the Abilene Zoo "theme zones." They include:

1. Pumpkin Country

A place to submerge yourself into fall with the all-new Pumpkin Country featuring a hay maze, pumpkin patch, pumpkin decorating, and pictures with the pumpkins.

2. Medieval Legends

The Middle Ages come alive in Medieval Legends! Get ready to do some medieval pumpkin chunking into the lake from an old french style catapult loaded with a pumpkin, meet legendary animals, and rule the castle as a medieval knight.

3. Reptile World

Explore the Reptile World by witnessing today's real dinosaurs, learn the history and see how these modern-day prehistoric creatures still exist in our world today. Welcome to today's Jurassic period.

4. Zoomanji at Madagascar

A real adventure awaits you at the Abilene Zoo's Zoomanji at Madagascar. This is where you go and seek out the adventure. Take an expedition through the jungle and meet the creatures that reside in the jungles of Madagascar. Source: Abilene Zoo / Clay Carabajal

5. Fiesta de AnimalesMedieval Legends

Here's your chance to celebrate El Día de Los Muertos at Fiesta de Animales in the South American region of the Abilene Zoo. Enjoy some cultural eats, you'll find some huge pinatas, meet the rainforest creatures, and enjoy performances by Ballet Folklorico.

6. Creepy Creatures Show

I've discovered firsthand those creepy crawly creatures that give you the willies and make you jump for the sky . From giant tarantulas, Caribbean cockroaches, slithery snakes in all sizes big and small, and those scary creatures that only come out at night.

7. Animal Enrichment

Learn how Animal enrichment improves the lives of animals under human care. Discover how the Abilene Zoo practices enrichment and learn firsthand how you and I can help and mor importantly why it matters for the welfare of all animals.

So, get your scary little critters all dressed up for some fun "Trick-or-Treating" too throughout the zoo from 9 am to 4 pm. The most spooktacular event is put on by the Abilene Teachers Federal Credit Union. It’s tricks, treats, candy, and nonstop fun with Penny the Elephant, who can’t wait to see you at the zoo

Tickets are on sale and are only $12 a person, age 2 and under get in free. So purchase your tickets early, and get them online here.

Additional tips and guidelines to follow when visiting the Abilene Zoo:

  • Open are: Zoo eats, giraffe feeding experience, gift shop, and the carousel
  • Go for a ride on the Safari Train Express
  • Food for hand-feeding the giraffe will be available
