Ryan Murphy HBO Sex Drama ‘Open’ Adds ‘Archer’s Aisha Tyler
We'd been fairly well sold on 'American Hororr Story' creator Ryan Muphy's sexy HBO drama pilot 'Open' by the addition of 'Fringe' star Anna Torv, but the latest bit of casting should really send genre fans over the edge. 'Archer' voice and 'The Talk' host Aisha Tyler has joined the pilot as well, but when can we expect a decision from HBO on the series?
TVLine first reported news of Tyler's casting, adding that the prior 'Glee' and 'Nip/Tuck' guest will portray Monica, a married nurse at Michelle Monaghan's character Grace's practice, who maintains a surprisingly modern outlook on marriage. Thus far, HBO has yet to issue a formal pickup for the drama, but the impressive amount of buzz and Ryan Murphy pedigree will likely influence its chances.
As for the pilot plot, 'Open' sees Monaghan as a character who comes to question her marriage and sexuality upon meeting yoga instructor Windsor (Torv). Scott Speedman will portray Grace’s husband Jonathan, a sports marketing executive, while Jennifer Jason Leigh will play Torv’s partner Holly, an actress committed to her career. 'The Hunger Games' star Wes Bentley also stars in the role of the “handsome but arrogant” Evan Foster, a blowhard who loves espousing his own theories on human sexuality.
Previously, ‘Open’ has been billed as “a multicharacter exploration of the complex, ever evolving landscape of sexuality, monogamy and intimacy in relationships,” written by ‘Dexter‘ co-executive producer Lauren Gussis.
Well, what say you? Has 'Open' improved its aim by adding
Lana Aisha Tyler? Would you want to see HBO take the drama to series?
