H-E-B is celebrating Earth Day by making easy to read labels for recycling their products.

According to NewsWest 9, H-E-B has joined the How2Recycle program and making it easier to identify which items can and can't be recycled to make it easier for people to recycle properly.

"We've been partnered with How2Recycle to create a new labeling program to make it easier for our customers to understand how to recycle and what to recycle," said Alyssa Owens, H-E-B Public Affairs Representative.

The labels do not blend in with the product and are bolder and easier for customers to see and goes into detail about what can and can't be recycled.

"You'll see on this one for example, will tell you what to recycle," Owens said. "The paper box is recyclable and not recyclable is the wrapper. The wrapper inside that has the actual bar, so just the box not the wrapper, it makes it clear to understand."

This will make it easier for customers that maybe haven't started a recycling program because they were not sure what could be recycled, now they can start recycling and helping out the environment with the easy to read labels.

"Sustainability has been a big focus with H-E-B, and we are excited to roll out this program because it really just makes it easier," Owens said. "There's a lot of customers that want to recycle but just don't know how, and this program really does make it easier."

The labels are on about 300 H-E-B branded products right now and are expected to be on more than 1,500 by the end of the year.
