Gina Rodriguez Uses N-Word in Instagram Video, Faces Backlash for Her Apology

Gina Rodriguez posted a controversial Instagram story video clip where, while singing along to "Ready Or Not" by The Fugees, Rodriguez did not censor the n-word in the song.

After social media backlash, the Jane The Virgin star deleted the Instagram video and recorded an apology video.

"Hey, what's up everybody? I just wanted to reach out and apologize," the actress told her followers. "I am sorry. I am sorry if I offended anyone by singing along to The Fugees, to a song that I love, that I grew up on. I love Lauryn Hill. And I really am sorry if I offended you."

Fans on social media began to criticize Rodriguez for her apology and for using the racial slur to begin with. Hours after her first video apology, she posted a statement on her Instagram account with the comment section turned off. "In song or in real life, the words that I spoke, should not have been spoken," she wrote.

"I thoughtlessly sang along to the lyrics of a favorite song, and even worse, I posted it." The Carmen Sandiego voice actress expressed that she feels remorse and that it is "humiliating" that this has to be a public lesson.
