In a collision of pretty much the two most popular pop culture objects on the entire planet, has announced that David Benioff and D.B. Weiss, the co-creators of the Game of Thrones TV series, have signed to write and produce an entire series of Star Wars movies.

More details:

It was announced today that Benioff and Weiss, creators of the smash-hit, Emmy Award-winning television series Game of Thrones, will write and produce a new series of Star Wars films. These new films will be separate from both the episodic Skywalker saga and the recently-announced trilogy being developed by Rian Johnson, writer-director of Star Wars: The Last Jedi.

Lucasfilm has no further details at this point. But you can start your fan-fiction/theories right now. Jon Snow using the Force, Yoda versus the Night King, the Millennium Falcon versus a dragon; literally there is no joke too dumb that you can’t make it now. (And then put it on a mashup T-shirt and sell it on Red Bubble for $28.96.)

Clearly Benioff and Weiss are looking for their next major project with Game of Thrones winding down. (The next season of the show is its last.) They were developing a series called Confederate, which would have imagined an alternate universe America where the Confederacy never lost the Civil War and continued to exist alongside the United States, but that project was met with controversy and development on the project was reportedly halted. This news definitely makes you think that series won’t see the light of day anytime soon (or ever).

Instead, they’ll tackle Star Wars. I am horrified to think about what these guys are going to do with lightsabers.
