Former UTPB Falcon Baseball Player in the World Series

If you weren't already rooting for the Houston Astros, now you have a local reason to root for them as a former UTPB Falcon is on the diamond in the World Series.

According to NewsWest 9, Evan Gattis had a rough trip to get to the World Series, but he made it.

Gattis was a top prospect out of high school and comitted to play baseball with Texas A&M, but never made it to College Station.

Instead he made his way into a rehab facility because his fear of failure had led him into an addiction to alcohol and drugs.

But in 2009 he got his break and joined the UTPB Falcon baseball team and Coach Brian Reinke could tell right away he had big league talent.

Reinke gave him the exposure he needed to get him to the big league and in the 2010 draft he was chosen in the 23rd round by the Atlanta Braves.

In early 2015 the Braves traded Gattis to the Houston Astros and now in 2017, the former UTPB Falcon is getting his chance at a world championship.
