The month of December 2019 saw a spike in flu-like illnesses.

According to NewsWest 9, Midland Memorial Hospital sends out a flu report to the health department monitoring the emergency room for patients coming in with flu-like illnesses.

The report had a spike in flu related illnesses during December of 2019, so MMH is urging citizens to get a flu shot as soon as possible.

Other ways you can prevent the flu from hitting your family is to practice good hand hygiene by washing them often and to stay away from shaking hands with people.

Other good ways to prevent the spread of the virus is to cover your coughs and sneezes either in the crook of your arm or with a tissue and to stay at least 6 feet away from people you know are sick.

If you do start getting flu-like symptoms, it is best to get to the doctor or clinic when the symptoms begin to prevent them from getting worse.
