Erupting Chilean Volcano Is a Frighteningly Spectacular Sight
Chile's Calbuco erupted on Wednesday for the first time in 40 years on Wednesday, causing some 4,000 people in a 12-mile radius to be evacuated.
No deaths, injuries or missing persons have been reported.
Calbuco had not had a major eruption since 1962.
One person who was in the area said the scene scared lots of people:
It was impressive to see an enormous mushroom cloud, with the immense force of the volcano, and to see the ashes. At that point, there was a lot of panic, lots of chaos, traffic jams, people going to supermarkets, everyone looking for water, trying to take out money from the ATMs."
