Our favorite five letters in Texas strikes again, ERCOT, the Electric [un]Reliability Council of Texas warning of brownouts this summer because of the increased demand for power in the upcoming summer months.

As Yogi Berra said many years ago, "It's like deja vu all over again," since the major power outage in February 2021 we just keep having to deal with a power grid that cannot handle the amount of electricity people in Texas need to keep cool in the summer (or warm in the winter during a wild winter storm).

This problem is unique to Texas because the other 47 states in the lower 48 all share a national power grid. That means if it is unusually hot in Arizona and it is unusually cool in Montana, Arizona can pull from the Montana area of the electric grid so people in Arizona can still keep cool and enjoy having electricity.

But Texas, in its infinite wisdom does not want to be on a national power grid because then the people in power in Austin cannot fully control it, which can be a good thing, but since 2021 it has proved to be a not-so-good thing.

But the Texas Legislature doesn't want to be on a national grid so the people in the state of Texas have to suffer through brownouts and possible blackouts because our state leaders are stubborn.

So get ready this summer to have to conserve energy and sit in front of a fan during major usage times so we can keep the unreliable power grid from failing instead of being able to pull power from Maine or someplace that will not be using much power during our hottest part of summer to keep the power on.

All of us in Texas who are tired of brownouts and an unreliable power grid need to call your representative or senator and let them know we want to be on the national power grid so we can enjoy summer without worry.
