Odessa public pools are already closed for the season but now the health department is extending that to semi-public pools.

According to NewsWest 9, the ECHD announced May 7, 2020 that it would not be allowing semi-public pools to open this summer which includes pools at apartment complexes, hotels, and motels.

The health department states there is no evidence COVID-19 can be transmitted through pool water but the crowds that will congregate will increase the potential of the virus spreading.

"We understand the inconvenience this will cause and our goal is to protect the public and stop the spread of COVID-19 in our community," said the ECHD in a press release.

This announcement comes after the City of Odessa announced earlier that public pools would be closed for the 2020 summer season.

Midland Mayor Patrick Payton has discussed the possibility of Midland pools opening for the summer, so we will see how this all plays out.
