There are lots of people including myself who enjoy going hiking. It’s a fantastic way to see the beauty around us and get some exercise at the same time. Although, you must be very careful when planning your hikes to make sure you can handle the difficulty of the trail and the weather you might experience while you’re hiking. Unfortunately, there was a hiker that was found dead New Year’s Eve on the highest mountain in Texas, the Guadalupe Peak Trail.

According to the MY SA, other hikers on the trail began CPR immediately after finding the hiker and notified park staff. But there wasn’t much that could be done.

What Happened To Cause the Hiker to Lose Their Life?

The Guadalupe Peak Trail is not easy, it’s 8.4 miles round trip with elevation gain of 3,000 feet from top to bottom. It also didn’t help that on New Year’s Eve there were wind gusts of up to 50 mph and wind chills below freezing. All of these factors could have led to issues during the hike, which is another good reason on why you should always hike with someone else.

Hiking Can Be Fun But You Must Be Safe

Beyond just hiking with a friend there are other safety measures you should think about when hiking. The National Park Service wants to remind everyone that when you’re facing high winds it’s always best to turn around, you can always come back and attempt the hike another day. Don’t put yourself in a dangerous situation just to complete the hike.
