Because rumors of a ‘Deadpool’ movie have lingered for many years and years, we’ll always remain a little skeptical that this movie is actually happening for real this time. But, following the news that Ryan Reynolds has officially signed on to star, comes word that casting on the project is ramping up as T.J. Miller (‘Silicon Valley’, ‘Transformers: Age of Extinction’) and Ed Skrein (formerly of ‘Game of Thrones’) are in talks to join the upcoming project.

No specific character details were given, though it’s indicated by The Wrap that Miller will play a friend/sidekick of Deadpool’s while Skrein would play the film’s villain. Taskmaster would make the most sense as the film’s villain, but given that that character first originated in an Avengers comic, it’s unclear whether Fox owns the rights to the character.

T.J. Miller recently lent his voice work to another superhero film, ‘Big Hero 6', though will have significantly more to do here. Skrein you might remember as the original Daario Naharis on ‘Game of Thrones’ (the “Valar morghulis” guy) before he was replaced by Michiel Huisman for the remainder of the series.

Tim Miller, the VFX vet who worked on ‘Scott Pilgrim’ and created the ‘Girl With the Dragon Tattoo’ opening credits, will make his feature directorial debut on the film.

After years of trying to get a ‘Deadpool’ movie made, the project finally moved forward when test footage “leaked” online last year. Though Reynolds previously played Deadpool in ‘X-Men Origins: Wolverine’ this iteration of the character is expected to be completely different (and, from what we’ve heard, in traditional Deadpool fashion will even reference the ‘Wolverine’ movie).

‘Deadpool’ opens in theaters on February 16, 2016.
