Cases of Drug For COVID-19 Treatment Arrive in the Basin
The drug is not a cure but it has shown that it speeds up the recovery time for people with COVID-19.
According to NewsWest 9, the drug is called Remdesivir and it is an anti-viral medication that has proven that it can speed up recovery times for COVID-19 patients.
The FDA made an emergency approval of the drug on May 1, 2020 and three cases of Remdesivir have been sent to the Permian Basin.
Midland County will receive two cases and Ector County will receive the third case as a part of a 30 case delivery to Texas hospitals by the Texas Department of State Health Services.
Remdesivir was developed in 2009 for potential use in fighting Coronaviruses like SARS and MERS as well as Ebola.
Once again, this is not a cure for COVID-19 but it is a very effective treatment.
