The listeria outbreak in 2015 of Blue Bell ice cream is still costing the company 5 years later.

According to NewsWest 9, a federal court in Texas has ordered Blue Bell Creameries L.P. to pay over $17 million for the listeria outbreak back in 2015.

The Justice Department says this is the largest criminal penalty in a food related case.

Since closing down in April 2015 and cleaning and updating their facilities and re-opening in late 2015, Blue Bell has taken significant steps in their sanitation process and has enacted a program that tests products for listeria prior to distribution.
