The orders set by Gov. Abbott to re-open the state will allow businesses in Howard County to open on May 1 at 50% capacity.

According to NewsWest 9, the reason Big Spring and Howard County are able to open up businesses at 50% and Midland/Odessa will open at 25% is because of the number of COVID-19 cases in those counties.

Big Spring will have to go down to 25% capacity if their COVID-19 cases hit the guidelines for 25% which are 3 or more cases per 1,000 residents.

Other counties in the area that can apply for 50% occupancy is Martin, Gaines, Scurry, and Winkler.

Public pools, bowling alleys, tattoo studios, and salons are not allowed to open at this time and will remain closed till the governor allows those businesses to open, possibly in phase 2.
