Best Buy is trying to be carbon neutral by the year 2040 and the solar farm in Andrews County is one way they can achieve that goal.

According to the Midland Reporter-Telegram, Best Buy has revealed the more than 2,500-acre solar power farm that has been producing power since August.

The solar farm is the largest renewable energy program the company has involved itself in.

They call it Prospero 2 Best Buy Solar and they are doing it in cahoots with U.S. Bank and Longroad Energy.

The solar farm will power 300 Best Buy stores for about 10 years which is about 30% of their locations.

Best Buy was one of the first companies to make a plan to become carbon neutral and they have cut their carbon emissions by 61% since 2009.

“We are committed to taking action to be carbon neutral across our business by 2040,” said Tim Dunn, Best Buy’s Head of Environmental Sustainability. “We are proud to be making another investment in renewable energy that accelerates our sustainability goals and addresses climate change in our operations and the communities we serve.”

So next time you are in a Best Buy store, remember the lights that are helping you find the products you want to buy, are being powered by the solar farm in Andrews County.

This proves that Best Buy is committed to removing its carbon footprint on the world by the year 2040 and will be one of the first companies to achieve its goal by 2040.
