Texas Parks and Wildlife Department has just acquired land to expand Balmorhea State Park.

According to the Midland Reporter-Telegram, it took seven years but now with the acquisition of 643 acres of land, the former 108 acre park will now expand to a total of 751 acres.

They plan on using the new acreage for nature walks and scenic overlooks to enhance the park.

Carpenters Hill is included in the new acreage which was originally part of the historic landscape of the park back in the 1930's.

Texas Parks and Wildlife Department has no date right now of when the extra land will be opened as part of Balmorhea State Park.
