It's an annual tradition for West Texans, the Jaycee Rattlesnake Round-Up is coming to Sweetwater, TX.

According to NewsWest 9, the Rattlesnake Round-Up will be March 7-10 at the Nolan County Coliseum in Sweetwater.

There will be a Miss Snake Charmer pageant, gun and knife show, flea market, carnival, food vendors, and a lot of other activities for young and old.

Originally formed in 1958 as a way to get rid of the snakes but once the Sweetwater Jaycees took it over, they made it a way to teach rattlesnake safety.

“If you hear one stop, find him, locate where he is and then look around you and find the rest of them. Everybody says jump and run. Well, if you do you might get bit. They strike at the movement and the suddenness,” said Keith Wilmann, a Jaycee Snake handler.

All money raised during the round-up goes right back to the community of Sweetwater.
