‘Hunger Games’ Star Amandla Stenberg Comes Out in ‘Wonderland’ Interview: ‘Yep, I’m Gay’
Amandla Stenberg celebrated her pride in the most artistic way.
The rising actress, whose resume encompasses parts in young adult blockbusters Hunger Games, Everything, Everything, and a whole host of other teen flicks, came out as gay in a recent interview for Wonderland's Summer 2018 issue.
"So happy to say the words Yep, I'm Gay in official print," the "Let My Baby Stay" performer announced on Instagram, with a collection of colorful snapshots taken from her photo op with the pub.
When asked by fellow pop singer King Princess what she loves about identifying as gay, the 19-year-old explained: "I’m grateful for how being gay has afforded me this ability to experience and understand love and sex, and therefore life, in an expansive and infinite way."
“The continual process of unlearning heteronormativity and internalized homophobia can be difficult, but one of the biggest blessings lies in the magic that comes from having to understand love outside the confines of learned heterosexual roles," she continued, adding that once she liberated herself from those confines "I found myself in a deep well of unbounded and untouchable love free from the dominion of patriarchy."
She appended: “My sexuality is not a byproduct of my past experiences with men, who I have loved, but rather a part of myself I was born with and love deeply.”
The new proclamation shouldn't come as a surprise. Stenberg has always been sincere about her gender and sexual identity, having identified as bisexual, pansexual, queer and gender fluid in the past.
