SPOILER ALERT: Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse does not end with Miles Morales dying a horrible death. He lives! And that leaves the door wide open for sequels, which Sony is now talking about openly. Assuming the movie does as well in theaters as early predictions are suggesting, you’ll be getting an Into the Spider-Verse 2 movie in the near future.

According to an interview in Vanity Fair, producer Amy Pascal says that the follow-up “will be focused on Miles Morales and Gwen Stacy—and will explore a romance between the two, a thread from [Spider-Verse writer Phil] Lord’s original script that ultimately didn’t fit in Into the Spider-Verse.”

Rather than the original creative team, this sequel will be directed by Joaquim Dos Santos and written by David Callaham. And there is also a planned spinoff movie for Gwen Stacy and other Spider-Women, including Marvel’s original Spider-Woman, Jessica Drew (whose recent comic where she gets pregnant and becomes a single mom, is on of my favorite books ever, and worth buying in its entirety), and Silk, a recent addition to the Spider-Man canon who’s a girl bitten by the same radioactive spider as Peter Parker.

I love Spider-Verse so I hope we get to see more movies set in this universe (or spider-verse, whatever). I hope we get to see more stuff from the original movie’s creative team, though; no knock against Dos Santos and Callaham, but Phil Lord, Chris Miller, and directors Bob Persichetti, Peter Ramsey, and Rodney Rothman. did a terrific job. Into the Spider-Verse is open in theaters now.
