The nature of Westworld’s time-turning twist made it unlikely certain Season 1 characters would return, but prepare for a blast from the past. A dangling thread from the finale may yet be resolved in Season 2, now that at least one major character is returning.

You’re warned of full spoilers for Westworld Season 1 from here on out, but it’s safe to say Season 2 wouldn’t try pulling the same thirty-year twist on us again. The revelation that Ed Harris’ “Man in Black” was actually Jimmi Simpson’s William thirty years later answered a major mystery of the season, but also seemed to cost Simpson a place in the story going forward. That said, we never quite learned what became of William’s soon-to-be brother-in-law Logan (Ben Barnes), who was last seen tied to a horse and sent off in the past. Any purpose in the narrative seemed to ride off with him, but as Barnes now tells Screen Rant, he may yet resurface in Season 2:

I definitely have heard because I can tell you that I have been on set at least once already.

Barnes’ words aren’t perhaps an official guarantee of Logan’s role in Season 2, though it’s certainly something to consider. We’d wager that Barnes is more likely to resume his prior role than portray an older Logan (heh) in the “present” timeline, so might Westworld Season 2 have more story to tell in the past? Would the younger William perhaps return with him, even as Jimmi Simpson claimed to be sitting out Season 2?

Elsewhere of Westworld Season 2, the spring 2018 “Journey Into Night” is expected to answer practical questions about the park, potentially even a date for the show’s setting. Ed Harris will be back to play Season 2 on “extreme mode,” while Talulah Riley and Louis Herthum have been upped to series regular. We’ll also finally get answers on the mysterious “SW” park, and hopefully learn what became of poor Elsie and Stubbs.

New additions include Leftovers alum Katja Herbers and Fargo big bad Zahn McClarnon, along with Neil Jackson and American Gods star Jonathan Tucker, Vikings favorite Gustaf Skarsgard, Tyrant alum Fares Fares, Betty Gabriel and LOST star Hiroyuki Sanada.

We’ll see what other Westworld Season 2 details emerge soon, but what role might Logan have to play?
