Last night we had our very first full moon of the year and it was called, 'The Wolf Moon'.  What is the 'Wolf Moon' and how did they get that name?

January is the month of the 'Full Wolf Moon'. It appeared when wolves howled in hunger outside the villages, waiting for some small children or slow old person to wander into the woods...sorry, relieving some Grimm's Fairytales.
It is also known as the Old Moon. To some Native American tribes, this was the Snow Moon, although most applied that name to the next full Moon, in February.
That's not the coolest event happening near our planet though, as astronomers and laymen enjoy the view of Comet Lovejoy, C/2014 Q2. If you would like to see it, check out this 'how to' guide to finding it in the night sky!
