It's beginning to look a lot like Christmas and to see what's happening in the month of December, the City of Midland put together a list of events in 'Monthly Shorts!

For starters, the City of Midland's annual tree lighting is scheduled to take place at Centennial Plaza starting at 6 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 5. Bring the family and enjoy a night in downtown Midland! There will be food, music, and yes, SANTA!

Additionally, the City’s Parks and Recreation Division is still accepting entries for the 2015 Christmas Parade. The parade will begin at 6:30 p.m. on Dec. 12 in downtown Midland with the futuristic-inspired theme of 'Into the Future: Christmas 2115.' Float registration forms are available at the MLK Jr. Community Center (2300 Butternut Ln.), the Parks & Recreation Division office (2701 W. Elizabeth), or online. REGISTRATION MUST BE RECEIVED BY December 10 at 6:00 p.m.  If you’re not entering a float in the parade, just show up early to get a good spot!

It's time to rock those holiday sweaters! Come don your ugliest holiday apparel and take to the streets of Downtown Midland in the 3rd Annual Ugly Christmas Sweater 5K Fun Run and 1 Mile Reindeer Dash. The Ugly Christmas Sweater Run starts at 11 am on Saturday, December 12. Early Registration begins at 9 am.

The Jingle Bell Run is taking place at 9:30am Saturday, December 5 at Heritage USA Federal Credit Union (5700 W Wadley Ave). Registration is at 8:30am followed by a kid’s fun run, with the 5k chip timed event taking place shortly after that. The first 200 Registrants get an event T-Shirt, so register today!
