After two recent crashes on State Hwy 158 east of Midland this past week, TxDOT is now looking into modifications of the highway.

According to NewsWest 9, water pooling on the asphalt as a result of high traffic volumes is to blame for the two crashes.

The accident on Saturday killed 4 people, including three teens between the ages of 12-17, the second accident on Tuesday involved an 18-wheeler that spilled oil on the highway, both accidents were caused by hydroplaning during the past two rain storms to hit the area.

TxDOT is currently evaluating the stretch of State Hwy 158 east of Midland to determine what safety improvements they can make on the road.
