‘Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Out of the Shadows’ Trailer: You Will Believe a Turtle Can Fly, Be a Ninja
Turtles skydiving and fighting living brains housed in massive robots. They definitely ain’t lying with that whole “out of the shadows” subtitle.
Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Out of the Shadows is the follow-up to 2014’s live-action film. That one went with more of the dark, realistic style. So I supposed the subtitle also refers to the tweak in tone for this sequel. Forget the half-hearted attempts at grimdark; this time they’re going big and bright and colorful like the cartoon show that endeared these characters to generations of kids. And that includes wacky concepts like the talking warthog and rhino (Bebop and Rocksteady, played by Gary Anthony Williams and WWE Superstar Sheamus), plus that evil alien brain Krang (now voiced by Brad Garrett, replacing the originally announced Fred Armisen).
The official plot synopsis:
After supervillain Shredder escapes custody, he joins forces with mad scientist Baxter Stockman (Tyler Perry) and two dimwitted henchmen, Bebop (Gary Anthony Williams) and Rocksteady (WWE Superstar Stephen “Sheamus” Farrelly), to unleash a diabolical plan to take over the world. As the Turtles prepare to take on Shredder and his new crew, they find themselves facing an even greater evil with similar intentions: the notorious Krang.
As brutal as the previous TMNT movie was, I remain mildly curious about this one. I mean, it’s clearly not meant for me, but something about its unashamed aesthetic appeals to me. You’re a movie about ninja turtles, man. Own that. Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Out of the Shadows opens in theaters on June 3.
