A couple of school districts in the Permian Basin will be closing because of a flu epidemic hitting the region.

According to NewsWest 9, Andrews and Big Spring School districts will be closing because of a recent flu outbreak.

Both districts say they will close down the schools and use the time to help the students and faculty to get better as well as taking time to disinfect classrooms and buses.

Andrews ISD has noticed an increase in attendance and hopes the break will help improve attendance.

Big Spring ISD hopes that they can stop the spread before it gets to an epidemic proportion.

School districts as well as medical professionals encourage everyone to get the flu vaccination to help curb the spread of the virus.

It is not stated that any other school district in the area will be closing anytime soon to help curb the spreading of the virus.
