Police Remind People in the Permian Basin to Be Aware of School Zones Starting Next Week

Summer break is officially over starting next week for most schools in the area, so MPD and OPD are reminding drivers to be aware of school zones.

According to the Midland Reporter-Telegram, school zones will once again be back in action starting Monday in most areas of Midland and Odessa.

Midland ISD, Ector County ISD, and Greenwood ISD all begin classes this coming Monday, August 22. Also be aware some private schools in the area begin classes this week.

Citations for speeding in a school zone are up to a $200 fine, and the 5 miles over the speed limit leeway is not applicable in school zones either, you can get a ticket for 1 or 2 MPH over the posted speed limit in a school zone.
