Petition Started Online to Change Name of Midland Lee High School

A former student has started a petition online for the school board and mayor of Midland to approve a name change for Robert E. Lee High School.

According to NewsWest 9, the petition was started online by former 1998 graduate Ritha Belizaire, her and other alumni are urging the school board and Mayor Jerry Morales to change the name of the school.

M.I.S.D. officials say they understand the sensitivity of the issue brought about by recent events but say they are going to focus their efforts on serving the educational needs of the students of Midland instead.
