High-profile miniseries are a continually booming business for HBO, and you don’t get much bigger than Amy Adams starring in an adaptation of Gillan Flynn’s Sharp Objects. Well, you do now, as Patricia Clarkson becomes the second cast in the HBO adaptation, playing a crucial role opposite Adams.

Per The Hollywood Reporter, former Six Feet Under star Clarkson will take the role of Camille (Adams)’s mother Adora Crellin, described as “queen of Wind Gap’s highest society.” The character is also said to be haunted by the death of Camille’s sister years earlier, while “her anxiety is manifested through an overbearing love and protection for her youngest, Amma … The sudden return of her estranged daughter, Camille, provokes her subtle hostility that threatens Camille’s sobriety and sanity.”

The main thrust of the eight-part series follows reporter Camille Preaker upon release from a psychiatric hospital, who returns home to cover the murders of two preteen girls, and attempts to put together a psychological puzzle from her own past. The long-simmering adaptation will be written by UnREAL alum Marti Noxon, with Flynn herself executive producing and writing several episodes, joined by Jean-Marc Vallee, Jason Blum, Charles Layton, Jessica Rhoades, Nathan Ross and Amy Adams.

Sharp Objects will reportedly go before cameras soon, so stay tuned for the latest.
